ABOUT ME

“Botany, the science of the vegetable kingdom is one of the most attractive, most useful, and most extensive departments of human knowledge. It is, above every other, the science of beauty” – Joseph Paxton

Welcome! I am delighted that you have stumbled upon my humble corner of the internet. My name is Cecilia, and this blog is a heartfelt homage to my beloved Grandmother, who instilled in me an enduring love for gardens.

Growing up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia, my afternoons and school breaks were filled with endless exploration in my grandmother’s sprawling garden. It was a wonderland of botanical delights, overflowing with the most exquisite array of flowers and shrubs. Her abode, aptly named Winter Gardens, truly lived up to its title. Every nook and cranny held a vibrant tapestry of azaleas, camellias, hydrangeas, and impatiens. I whiled away the hours, joyously popping seed pods and ascending the grandeur of the jacaranda tree, its branches stretching over the garage, bestowing the street with a regal purple carpet of fallen petals.

In the backyard, a grand three-story macadamia nut tree towered above, beckoning my cousin and I to develop our nut-cracking prowess with the precision of seasoned squirrel pros.  The garden also boasted oleander and frangipani trees, and a lemon tree that dutifully doubled as a scratching post for my grandmother’s mischievous cats. It was my haven where childhood fantasies intertwined with the beauty of flora.

These memories of my formative years paved the way for a lifelong affair with natural escapes and the enchantment of botanical gardens. Whether I am tending to my own cut flower garden in my Texas hometown, embarking on grand voyages to gardens spanning the globe, or venturing to national parks, nature has forever been my sanctuary. Whether you find solace in solitary hikes or embark on leisurely family strolls through gardens, the embrace of nature has an uncanny ability to nourish the depths of your soul.

With utmost sincerity, I extend my warmest wishes that this humble blog of mine resonates with your own yearning for natural retreats and botanical escapades. May it inspire you to embark on your own voyages, to seek solace in the ethereal beauty that surrounds us, and to discover the hidden gems just beyond your own doorstep.

Your botanical traveler,
Cecilia
